Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder. Everybody defines beauty differently. Therefore, we should not judge a person’s beauty just by looking at their physical apperances. I feel that physical appearances and inner beauty are equally important.
Presentable physical appearances can help us make good first impression. People tend to be more inclined into judging someone by how they give their first impression. Thus, having presentable physical appearances can help in building up the good image of yourself in others’ eyes. First impression on someone who has physical deformities is always worse than those who is ordinary as humans on the whole likes to see beautiful things. However, what is the real definition of beauty?
Good self esteem can be built up with inner beauty and good physical appearances. With inner beauty, one can find strength in overcoming their own flaws, making them more confident. In addition, good physical appearances allows the person to be treated normally unlike those with physical deformities. Being treated normally or even better to the extent of being popular can also make someone feel good. In that case, they can eventually build up their self esteem.
Imperfections such as character defects can arise when one lacks inner beauty. Nothing is perfect in this world. However, when one lacks inner beauty, they will have many ugly flaws that many find disgusting. A person may have the best physical appearances but if she has no inner beauty, her physical appearances is just an empty shell. It does not possess any quality that brings out the real beauty.
On the whole, physical appearances and inner beauty is important to oneself. First impression, self esteem and defects of the character can be caused by either the lack or possesion of physical appearances and inner beauty. Therefore, it is equally important to have the two qualities.
